Thanks to in-game development, Solomon can see souls!

He can't (yet) see details that explicitly impact people; ie he can't see someone's deep, dark secret. His ability to distinguish actual in-process patterns is in the works, and even though there are things he can see, he doesn't always understand their causes/impacts.

Primarily, how his sight works is no different to noticing someone's physical description, except that a person's soul doesn't lie, so he'll be able to see major scars/missing bits, and things like that. So far he's documented differences between things like:

- species/cultural upbringing (ie kedan are family-orientated, but can shapeshift, which gives them a unique 'soulprint' human family-oriented cultures wouldn't have)
- some kinds of emotions, particularly strong ones
- lingering scars vs actual missing bits.

SO if you have a description of your character's soul, please let me know here! If there's something that would show up but you'd rather he not see details for at any time, even after his sight progresses, also let me know! Souls are wibbly-wobbly things and it's easy for details to be lost.

(NOTE because Am: No need to actually use the above dash-points as a guideline for how to describe your character's soul. Unless you want to, in which case go ahead.)

Skulduggery's soul is canonically this weird sparkling bubble surrounding his skeleton, chalk-full of magic and chalk-full of rage. Rage is literally the only emotion Solomon will see.

Racial upbringing - Irish.

Lingering scars - Vile. Loss of wife and child. Probably dozens of others, but those are the major ones.

Actual missing bits - he's no longer alive. So. Yeah. That's an actual missing bit.

SOL IS NOT ALLOWED TO SEE ANY OF THIS. EVER.

Valdis' soul would appear as a shining crystal orb with thousands of visible cracks in its surface. Another interesting part would be the barrier that surrounds the soul and separates it from the Void. Very strong emotions are woven through the barrier; love, the desire to protect, and a deep sorrow tinged with anger. The Void is a dark and shadowy mass that encircles the barrier. As of this moment there is a clear space between the Void and the barrier, showing that the Void is not actively trying to pentrate or break the barrier. As Sol's abilities grow stronger, he might be able to sense that there are tiny fragments missing from the surface of Valdis' soul.

Because Valdis' soul plane is in a state of flux, these details may change in the future.

Yorda

-Yorda's own racial upbringing is vague. He'll probably just be getting a lot of bird song (look there weren't exactly people to talk to). She is presently sucking up Kedan and Foreigner cultures up like a sponge though.

-Strong emotions are a desire to help, curiosity, a lingering feeling of helplessness, fear of being trapped or possessed, and general teenage rebelliousness.

-We discussed this before but her soul looks very uncanny. At a glance she'd seem normal, but closer inspection would give one the sort of impression of something pieced together from fragments of other souls. If his sight is really keen, Solomon could pick up that those souls were other children, in and around the same age as Yorda.

Balthier

-Balthier comes from a fine stock of Archadian upper-class twits elite. He has a strong background in academia and engineering. He seems to be rejecting all but the engineering though, as there's a much stronger undercurrent of nefarious criminal living.

-Balthier's strongest emotions are sin a general love of thrill seeking and challenges and daddy issues guilt.

-He has some lingering emotional scars for the death of his father. He didn't have much of a choice in that regard, but there's still a lasting feeling of 'was there no other way?'. Otherwise his soul looks pretty normal. No missing bits.

Klaus

-Klaus is German and Catholic, but he's been around a lot of places and picked up different ideas. He's well traveled, and though he's pious, there's no zealotry there.

-All of Klaus's emotions are strong. Even for normal people, being around Klaus is like getting hit with a semi made of feefees. He tries to keep it under wraps, but what he feels vs what he expresses are two very different things. Sol may notice currently that Klaus is ***infatuated*** with someone. ...And, though not related to the former, that he also has an undercurrent of fierce rage. Not exactly repressed, but kept under strict control and carefully managed.

-Klaus has a lingering scar! The markings from his throat leading to the 'XII' just over the vicinity of his heart would show up on his soul, only in a deep, fiery crimson. It doesn't look like a very nice scar.

Adrien Agreste - Catboy with issues

  • His racial upbringing is French and upper class. His father is phenomenally wealthy and Adrien grew up wanting for nothing material.

  • Adrien is a real good soul. He WANTS to help people, heck, he was chosen to wield his Miraculous on account of him being a decent human being. That will be strong in him. He's also horrendously lonely, though that's been getting steadily better. He may also notice that Adrien is deeply in love with someone...who doesn't know it. Also all the superhero buisness is fair game.

  • All his emotional scars come form his father, who is distant and controlling. Adrien's mother "disappeared" and his father dealt with this by keeping watch over Adrien's every move, while delving himself into his work and not...actually spending any time with his son. Because of this, Adrien has deep-seated self worth issues, feeling he has to prove himself GOOD ENOUGH all the time.

  • He MIGHT also be able to sense Plagg. He's a mystical sprite-like creature who's existed since the dawn of time. He's a separate being when Adrien is a civilian, but when he's Chat, Plagg will be integrated into Adrien's ring, and his ability transferred into Adrien himself.

  • Plagg, along with Adrien when he's Chat would also give off a feeling of BAD LUCK. He is the Yin of the Kwami, so it's not necessary evil, just the dark end of a balanced spectrum.

Oh, boy. I think I will use dash-points. Because I can. And lists are tidy.

-If cultural upbringing, then the cult/brainwashing probably sticks out; China will not look like the average Irish sorcerer. ... Honestly it probably just looks like there's something wrong on that front, because this is China we're talking about.
    -emotions, what are emotions?
-Would he be able to see something of her love magic, I wonder? Or recognize that magic, and maybe even her tattoos-- I mean, those have been sunk into her skin for hundreds of years. She can't turn the love magic off. I'd be surprised if some of that doesn't stick out soully.
-does murdering a lot of people count under lingering scars?
-I think overall her soul is probably in one piece, but there's a lot of standard human experiences she just doesn't, and her outlook on life and people is a bit twisty-broken. I imagine she is like something faceted; gorgeous, but when the light hits it there are a thousand broken pieces of reflection rather than one giant lightbeam. If that makes sense.
-I've kind of gotten carried away with the dashpoints, huh.
    -I'm a little sorry.

Additionally, I'm separating Raine from China. They don't talk to each other. :P

-Raine's cultural upbringing is mixed, and also can best be defined as on the run. So, she's probably a bit atypical in that respect. The half-elf thing is reflected in her mana, and since mana and soul are pretty close to each other in her canon terms...
-When canon describes half-elf mana, it's just referred to as strange, and produced by the fusion of human and elven blood. So overall it's probably pretty distinctive. Not one nor the other, and just generally weird. Not wrong, per se, but different enough not to be ignorable.
-Emotionally, hm. Curiosity and the desire to learn are probably strong things. She's logic and cool demeanour all over everything, mostly, but I wouldn't be surprised if the stuff she's inclined to get loud and enthusiastic about shows up somehow. Science. Ruins. Learning. Magic. Etc.
-She's missing the majority of her childhood memories still. It might be interesting if that was 'visible.' It was repression based in emotional trauma, yes, but I don't think those are coming back, so.
-Related, probably the mother issues count as something of a lingering scar, but one that will fade given time.
-I feel like I'm missing something, but this is probably enough to be getting on with? lmk if it's not.

Leo is human, though his eyes are a mix of alien and magical technology. He, his sister, and his parents are american, and while Solomon might see that he's not so attached to his parents, he really cares for his sister. He cares for his friends too, and he has very strong values when it comes to loyalty and friendships.

What Solomon might also be able to see are emotions such as guilt and anxiety, but also a strong sense of justice and doing right. He will see just how much Leo wants to help others, though he might also see the an inferiority complex that he has going on; that he's not strong enough to help. In other words, Leo's emotions are all a big conflict against each other: wanting to help but not feeling good enough, guilt for not saving his sister, and general anxiety.

Also, well, if you want to talk about missing bits...his real eyes...are.. technically not there. Yeah. Kinda creepy.

-Tim is 100% human, modern American teenager. His relationship to his late parents was distant (though he wouldn't characterize it that way), but he's very close to his adoptive family, and he believes very strongly in the chosen family.

-He's been a vigilante in Gotham since he was thirteen, with all the attendant emotional baggage that comes with being one of Batman's junior partners--i. e., a belief in justice, and a heck of a lot of repression.

-He's actually experienced quite a bit of loss in his life (lots of friends and family have died, and while some have come back since, it doesn't change the fact that it happened). So he's probably got lots of emotional scars from that.

-Happy to answer any other questions if I'm not thorough enough!

    Uhhhhhhhhhh.

Human. Indian descent, but from Miami himself. Magician (skilled in magic and is a psychic and traveler).

Tough exterior, tough interior. Lots of anger and resentment. Abandoned/unwanted at least some point in his familial past in a way that hurt him a lot. Has since been entirely on his own (in terms of who he can rely on). Loved Cady and she abandoned him too, which he's still a little broken up about.

Hopefully that helps? You can pick and choose whatever makes sense.

Danny's soul is probably a mix between bright neon green, the color of the ectoplasm of his world, and a bright blue color to represent his human side. Oddly, there is no real scarring between the two sides. They work together and blend together, even though by all logic they really shouldn't. Strong emotions are a desire to protect, a desire for acceptance, and some slightly more hidden bitterness and doubt.

Just remembered I should do this for the new character.

    So... Conan Edogawa
-Cultural Upbringing: Japanese, but not particularly family oriented. He has parents, but they left the country when he was fourteen. They only come back to visit a few times a year.
-A strong passion for truth and justice, a love for solving puzzles, huge amounts of regret and guilt.
-He's been close to a lot of death, due to murders happening everywhere he goes. Not sure if that would leave anything that could be sensed.
-His body isn't the right age for his soul. I'd be okay with sensing that there's something off about him, but I'd prefer that the actual reason wasn't figured out yet. Speculation would be okay.
-Lingering scars from a lot of very bad cases that he couldn't do anything to fix. I'd imagine it would be similar to the damage a veteran homicide detective would have.
